Economic Affairs Officer (Consultant)

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is recruiting an Economic Affairs Officer as a consultant for its Sub-regional Office for Central Africa (SRO-CA) in Yaounde, Cameroon. The consultant reports to the Director of the Office and works on economic diversification, trade and development issues in Central Africa. The expected duration is 6 months.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain Central Africa socio-economic data sets, country and subregional profiles, and prepare periodic monitoring and evaluation reports of national and joint AfCFTA projects.
• Produce at least three background papers, reports, studies and inputs to office outputs, and at least three policy briefs and one study on emerging issues in Central Africa.
• Organize and service at least three meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences, and act as focal point for at least three interdivisional or partner collaborations.
• Provide inputs on cross-border trade in Central Africa and support the implementation of AfCFTA in the region.
• Collect data to monitor Central Africa's development performance, coordinate budget and funding documents, and assist in preparing the office work programme.
• Research, analyse and present information, support policy development and evaluations, and organize outreach, training workshops and seminars.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in economics or a related field, or a first-level degree plus two years of qualifying experience.
• At least 7 years of experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, project management and evaluation.
• Experience in statistics and planning tools, country and subregional profiles, and servicing meetings, workshops and seminars.
• Experience with an international organization and with programme design, management and reporting using results frameworks is desirable.
• Fluency in oral and written French is required; working knowledge of English is an advantage.
