On-Call Archaeological Field Technician – Northwest Region

About the role

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is seeking experienced on‑call Archaeological Field Technicians for the Northwest Region (Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Bend, OR). The role involves monitoring construction sites, identifying and documenting archaeological resources, and ensuring compliance with cultural‑resource regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor construction activities and identify archaeological resources on‑site.
• Communicate findings and safety requirements to construction crews and project personnel.
• Prepare daily surveys, monitoring logs, and cataloging records using electronic data‑collection tools.
• Utilize GIS mapping applications to document resource locations.
• Coordinate with Native American monitors and other cultural‑resource specialists.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in archaeological or environmental consulting work.
• Associate degree or equivalent coursework in archaeology, anthropology, history, or related field.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass federal and state background checks.
• Physical ability to walk long distances, lift at least 40 lb, and work in varied weather and terrain.
• Experience working on active construction sites in the Northwest region.

Required skills

• Operation of field sampling equipment.
• Use of GPS units for precise location tracking.
• Proficiency with tablets/smartphones for electronic data collection.
• Experience with GIS mapping applications.
