Communication Intern – Humanitarian Field Support

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Cameroon is seeking a Communication Intern to support its humanitarian and development programmes in Douala. Working under the National Outreach and Visibility Officer and alongside field teams, the intern will gain hands‑on experience in documenting field activities, creating visibility materials, and supporting donor communication.

Key responsibilities

• Capture basic field visuals (photos, short videos) using a smartphone or camera during missions.
• Collect beneficiary quotes and short testimonies for use in reports and social media.
• Draft simple field updates, captions, and short posts for internal and external channels.
• Assist in preparing visibility materials such as banners, branded items, and consent forms in line with donor requirements.
• Organise and maintain communication files, including photos, videos, notes and consent forms.
• Support the creation of basic multimedia content (graphics, infographics, short videos) using beginner‑friendly tools.
• Contribute to community‑engagement activities by capturing positive stories and feedback.
• Help prepare short internal updates and maintain communication logs.

Required profile

• Enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme, or a recent graduate, in Communication, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Political Science, Journalism or a related field.
• Strong interest in humanitarian work and field outreach.
• Good knowledge of communication strategies and tools.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Canva or similar graphic‑design tools.
