Construction Specialist (P-3) – Temporary Appointment in Yaoundé

About the role

The Construction Specialist will lead the planning, procurement support, and on‑site monitoring of construction projects under UNICEF Cameroon’s Education Programme. Reporting to the Chief of Section, the role ensures that school infrastructure interventions are eco‑friendly, resilient, and aligned with programme objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the annual work plan for construction activities.
• Coordinate human and financial resources within the Construction unit.
• Supervise, coach, and conduct weekly meetings with unit staff.
• Provide technical leadership for the design of energy‑efficient school buildings, teachers’ accommodation, water points, and sanitation systems.
• Collaborate with UNICEF Programme teams and government counterparts to define construction interventions.
• Offer technical back‑stopping and advisory support on construction project management.
• Assist in preparing project proposals, terms of reference, and procurement documentation.
• Analyse project contexts and recommend appropriate construction solutions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing construction projects, preferably in the education sector.
• Strong understanding of eco‑friendly and resilient building design.
• Ability to work closely with UNICEF Operations, government agencies, and development partners.
• Excellent coordination, supervision, and reporting skills.
