Construction Specialist (P-3) – Temporary Appointment

About the role

The Construction Specialist will coordinate construction activities under UNICEF Cameroon’s Education Programme, ensuring that school infrastructure projects are planned, procured, and executed to improve access to quality education for vulnerable children.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and contribute to the annual work plan for construction activities.
• Coordinate human and financial resources of the Construction Unit and supervise staff.
• Provide technical leadership in designing eco‑friendly, energy‑efficient school buildings, teachers’ accommodation, administrative blocks, water points, and sanitation systems.
• Collaborate with UNICEF Programme teams and government counterparts to define construction interventions that meet programmatic needs.
• Offer technical back‑stopping and advisory support on construction project management to Programme/Operations sections and partners.
• Assist in the development of project proposals, terms of reference, and contextual analysis.

Required profile

• Experience in coordinating and managing construction projects, preferably in the education sector.
• Ability to supervise and coach staff, conduct unit meetings, and ensure clear roles and responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of eco‑friendly and energy‑efficient building design.
• Proven collaboration skills with government agencies and development partners.
