Construction Specialist – Temporary (P-3) in Yaoundé

About the role

The Construction Specialist will coordinate construction activities within UNICEF’s Education Programme in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Reporting to the Chief of Section, the incumbent will plan, support procurement, monitor on‑site works and provide technical advice to government and partners to improve school infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and contribute to the annual work plan for construction activities.
• Coordinate human and financial resources of the Construction unit, supervise and coach staff, and conduct weekly unit meetings.
• Provide technical leadership in designing eco‑friendly, energy‑efficient school buildings, teachers’ accommodation, administrative blocks, water points and sanitation systems.
• Collaborate with UNICEF Programme and Operations sections and with government counterparts to define construction interventions that meet programmatic needs.
• Offer technical back‑stopping and support for construction project management, including assistance in project proposals, planning, and preparation of terms of reference.
• Monitor construction works on site to ensure compliance with standards and timelines.

Required profile

• Proven experience coordinating construction activities and managing construction projects.
• Experience in planning, supporting procurement processes and monitoring on‑site construction works.
• Ability to provide technical and advisory support to government agencies and development partners.
• Experience designing eco‑friendly, energy‑efficient school facilities.
• Strong supervisory skills, including coaching staff and leading unit meetings.
