Head of Communications and Marketing

About the role

The Cumbria Combined Authority is seeking a senior leader to shape its communications and marketing strategy at a pivotal stage of devolution. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be the public face of the Authority, ensuring residents, businesses and partners understand its purpose and impact.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a strategic communications and marketing plan that raises the Authority’s profile locally and nationally.
• Lead a professional team covering media relations, stakeholder engagement, digital channels, branding, campaigns, internal communications and major events.
• Advise senior leaders on high‑profile, complex and sensitive issues, providing expert guidance and reputation management.
• Support economic growth initiatives by promoting investment opportunities and showcasing Cumbria’s strengths.
• Manage communications during organisational change and critical incidents.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading communications and marketing in a complex, public‑sector or similar environment.
• Strong advisory capability to senior executives and board members.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Demonstrated leadership in building high‑performing teams.
• Passion for using communications to drive positive community outcomes.
