Data Engineering Intern

About the role

We are looking for a Data Engineering Intern to support Maxis’ cybersecurity and vulnerability management initiatives. You will work closely with the security and network operations teams, handling real‑world security data, configuration management databases and risk assessment workflows. This internship offers hands‑on experience in data analysis, automation and the use of generative AI tools.

Key responsibilities

• Query and analyse vulnerability scan results from tools such as Tenable.
• Extract and review configuration item (CI) data from the CMDB.
• Automate reconciliation between vulnerability data and CMDB records.
• Identify and document discrepancies, classify mismatches by asset criticality and data quality.
• Assist in risk and criticality analysis for production assets with high‑severity vulnerabilities.
• Support trend analysis to detect recurring data misalignment patterns.
• Utilise Gemini Generative AI for natural‑language queries, automated reporting and remediation workflow assistance.
• Maintain documentation, dashboards and analytical reports for stakeholders.
• Contribute to a project that automates internal vulnerability signature management.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a related field.
• Strong interest in data engineering, cybersecurity and automation.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Strong SQL scripting abilities.
• Basic understanding of databases and data pipelines.
