Field Security Officer – Cameroon

About the role

The Field Security Officer will support IOM’s operations in Cameroon by managing security risks, providing expert advice, and ensuring the safety of personnel, assets and programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain relationships with UN security bodies, government counterparts and partner security services to gather up‑to‑date security information.
• Provide accurate security assessments and advise the Chief of Mission on threat mitigation.
• Develop, implement and test a warden system, including SCAAN, and coordinate security training for staff.
• Deliver security briefings for travelling staff and assess travel risks across road, air and river routes.
• Monitor compliance with UN Security Risk Management Measures and participate in Security Cell Meetings.
• Support business continuity planning and develop country‑specific security plans.
• Supervise the Field Security National Officer and ensure proper security clearance procedures.
• Test emergency communication systems and report security incidents promptly.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Security Management, International Relations or related field with at least five years of relevant experience, or a university degree with seven years of experience.
• Progressively responsible experience in security, risk, crisis or emergency management, preferably in an international or humanitarian context.
• International field experience and management experience in the public or private sector are desirable.
• Fluency in English and French (oral and written) is required.
