Head of Research and Scientific Publications

About the role

The Nkafu Policy Institute seeks a senior leader to direct the scientific agenda of its Health Policy & Research Division. Reporting to the Division Director, the Head of Research and Scientific Publications will shape research strategy, coordinate multidisciplinary projects, and ensure high‑quality outputs that influence health policy across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and scientific oversight for all division research projects, guaranteeing methodological rigor and ethical standards.
• Develop and monitor an annual research agenda in collaboration with senior staff.
• Coordinate cross‑functional research teams, manage timelines, and deliver high‑quality results.
• Identify and pursue new research initiatives aligned with emerging health policy priorities.
• Oversee research design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation across quantitative, qualitative, and mixed‑methods studies.
• Lead the production of peer‑reviewed articles, policy briefs, working papers, reports, and book chapters.
• Establish an internal review and editorial process to meet international scientific standards.
• Implement a publications strategy to maximize reach and impact among academic, policy, and practitioner audiences.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in health policy or related research fields.
• Strong academic background with a record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Ability to translate complex research findings into actionable policy recommendations.
• Experience mentoring and managing high‑performing research teams.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse stakeholder audiences.
