About the role
We are seeking a technical leader to own the electrical safety strategy for a multi‑billion pound rail infrastructure programme. As Lead Earthing & Bonding Engineer you will develop and embed earthing and bonding approaches that protect critical infrastructure and ensure safe integration across extensive, complex systems.
Key responsibilities
- Develop earthing and bonding strategies compliant with BS 7909, IEC 61936 and railway safety regulations.
- Define specifications and standards for design teams and contractors, and assure compliance.
- Lead peer reviews, technical governance and value‑engineering initiatives to optimise whole‑life costs.
- Manage professional services budget and oversee consultant performance on earthing and bonding deliverables.
- Interface with utilities, network operators and regulators on electrical safety coordination.
- Drive adoption of best practices such as TPLS, fault‑loop impedance analysis and earth‑mat design.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead EMC Engineer to align earthing and EMC strategies.
- Present technical concepts to senior stakeholders, contractors and external regulators.
- Coach and develop engineering capability within the earthing and bonding discipline.
Required profile
- Chartered Engineer with at least 15 years of experience in earthing, bonding and power‑systems electrical safety.
- Proven track record leading discipline teams on large‑scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of railway safety standards and regulatory environments.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and technical governance.

- Salary range £92,500 – £99,800 per annum
