Senior Assurance Technician – Audit & Review Specialist

About the role

Yates Whitaker LLP, a mid‑sized boutique CPA firm in Edmonton, is seeking a Senior Assurance Technician to lead audit and review engagements. The role offers the opportunity to work on complex files, mentor junior staff, and build client relationships within a dynamic, growth‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and prepare audits and review engagements for a variety of clients.
• Identify audit issues, propose solutions and ensure timely progression of files.
• Collaborate with the Assurance Senior Manager and Principal, providing regular updates.
• Assist and mentor new and junior staff on their assignments.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Occasionally support the Accounting team with compilations and personal tax returns.
• Perform other ad‑hoc tasks as required.

Required profile

• Accounting diploma and/or Bachelor’s degree with an accounting major.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as an Accounting/Assurance Technician in a professional services setting.
• Hands‑on experience with audit and assurance engagements and knowledge of Canadian standards (ASPE, ASNPO, CAS).
• Excellent communication, time‑management and organizational abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and a professional demeanor.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Excel.
• Experience with Tax Prep software.
• Familiarity with CaseWare.
• Knowledge of Doc.IT.
