Assistant Professor – Machine Learning

About the role

The University Institute of Technology (IUT) of Université Sorbonne Paris Nord is seeking an Assistant Professor to teach and develop the Bachelor of Technology (BUT) program in Computer Science, with a strong focus on Machine Learning and related data‑processing topics. The position combines teaching duties, supervision of internships and work‑study students, and participation in the research activities of the Paris Nord Computer Science Laboratory (LIPN).

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and practical sessions for the BUT Computer Science curriculum, covering database design, software development quality, and artificial intelligence.
• Supervise student internships, work‑study projects, and contribute to the organization of learning and assessment situations (SAé).
• Coordinate courses and potentially assume broader pedagogical responsibilities within the department.
• Contribute to LIPN’s research programmes, strengthening the Machine Learning and Applications (A3) team or the Knowledge Representation and Natural Language (RCLN) team.
• Engage in collaborative academic and industrial projects related to machine learning, NLP, and knowledge graphs.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level, preferably in computer science or data‑processing subjects.
• Strong research record with theoretical or applied contributions to machine learning.
• Ability to supervise and mentor undergraduate students in internships and projects.

Required skills

• Expertise in machine learning concepts and methods.
• Knowledge of data processing, database design, and software development quality.
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence applications, natural language processing, and knowledge graphs.
