Maintenance Director – Mining Operations

About the role

We are seeking a Maintenance Director to lead the full maintenance function for a large‑scale iron‑ore mining operation in Cameroon. Based on‑site, the role combines strategic leadership of both mobile equipment and fixed plant maintenance, driving reliability, asset performance and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the company’s maintenance strategy for mobile and fixed assets.
• Provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams covering mechanical, electromechanical, welding and hydromechanical maintenance.
• Lead preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes to maximise equipment availability.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives and oversee maintenance planning, shutdown execution, scheduling and CMMS optimisation.
• Run Root Cause Analysis programmes to eliminate recurring failures.
• Manage maintenance budgets, operating costs and long‑term asset lifecycle strategies.
• Develop spare‑parts management strategies and ensure critical component availability.
• Lead and develop senior maintenance managers, including the Head of Mobile Equipment Maintenance.
• Oversee contractors, OEMs and technical service providers while ensuring safety and HSE compliance.
• Build local technical capability through coaching, mentoring and succession planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering knowledge.
• Electromechanical systems expertise.
• Welding and hydromechanical maintenance experience.
• Proficiency with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology.
