About the role
The Country Manager will lead all operations of Hapag-Lloyd in Cameroon, driving business growth, enhancing customer experience, and executing the company’s strategic objectives within the market. This senior position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership abilities and deep knowledge of the maritime, shipping, and logistics sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Direct country sales efforts to maximize volume and contribution toward company goals.
- Identify and develop untapped markets and commodities to expand business opportunities.
- Manage and monitor sales performance, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular visits and engagements.
- Implement Hapag-Lloyd’s organizational structure and processes locally.
- Ensure compliance with governmental rules, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Resolve high‑level issues across all departments to maintain smooth operations.
- Guide cost‑saving initiatives and keep overhead within budget.
- Coach department managers and staff, conduct performance reviews, and recruit top talent.
- Oversee credit policy to minimize bad‑debt risk.
- Collaborate with shared services to maintain high customer‑service standards.
- Drive market growth and work with functional directors on sales, operations, and administration matters.
Required profile
- Previous experience as a Country Manager or similar role in the shipping industry.
- Fluency in English and French.
- Familiarity with Cameroon’s business landscape.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
