Epidemiology & Surveillance Officer – STRIDES Project

About the role

The Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer will support the STRIDES Activity in Cameroon, working closely with the Ministry of Public Health to strengthen infectious disease surveillance systems. This role focuses on improving data collection, analysis, and reporting to enhance national and sub‑national public health response.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance for establishing or strengthening event‑based surveillance (EBS) and indicator‑based surveillance (IBS) across Cameroon.
• Collaborate with national and sub‑national health authorities to plan and implement surveillance strategies.
• Contribute to annual work planning for STRIDES objective 2 (Surveillance Systems) and ensure alignment with project goals.
• Participate in technical meetings with stakeholders, including government, civil society, and private sector partners.
• Support data quality improvement, analysis, and reporting for infectious disease monitoring.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in epidemiology, public health, or a related field.
• Experience working with national health ministries or in disease surveillance programs.
• Strong understanding of surveillance concepts such as EBS and IBS.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams and international partners.

Required skills

• Knowledge of event‑based and indicator‑based surveillance systems.
• Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting in a public health context.
