Senior Surveyor I

About the role

The Senior Surveyor I will lead the examination and reporting of vessels and offshore structures, ensuring compliance with international regulations, classification rules and client‑specified guidelines. This role combines technical expertise with client interaction and supervision of junior surveyors.

Key responsibilities

• Apply and interpret ABS Classification Rules, statutory regulations and client guidelines during surveys.
• Plan, schedule and coordinate all phases of surveying work while monitoring quality and safety.
• Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports and maintain orderly survey files.
• Supervise, guide and train lower‑level surveyors to ensure consistent work standards.
• Engage with clients to resolve technical issues and promote ABS services.
• Recommend new methods, procedures or design changes based on emerging technologies and industry developments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or physical science discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in marine surveying, shipbuilding or offshore structures.
• Certified ship officer qualifications and proven seagoing experience.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of ABS Classification Rules and related statutory regulations.
• Strong understanding of shipbuilding practices and vessel operations.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and survey documentation.
• Experience with marine survey techniques and safety policies.
