Area Operations Manager – Kousseri, Cameroon

About the role

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is looking for an Area Operations Manager to lead its Kousseri office in Cameroon’s Far North region. The role will provide day‑to‑day operational oversight for a team of roughly 25 staff, ensuring that humanitarian programmes are delivered effectively, safely and in line with NRC standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate programme implementation and ensure compliance with NRC policies.
• Organise grant opening and closure meetings in collaboration with the country office.
• Represent NRC externally at the local level and build professional networks.
• Contribute to assessments for new areas of operation and develop programme strategies.
• Adapt and implement SOPs and procedures for assistance delivery.
• Oversee staff work plans, performance feedback sessions and development plans.
• Maintain NRC data collection systems and ensure accurate reporting.
• Monitor operational risks, logistical constraints and security volatility, escalating issues to country leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing humanitarian or development operations in challenging environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with authorities, local councils and other humanitarian actors.
• Strong understanding of the security and logistical context of the Lake Chad Basin.
• Fluency in English; French proficiency is an advantage.
