Buyer - Procurement Officer

About the role

The University of Antwerp is recruiting a Buyer for a full-time, on-site position in Yaoundé. The Buyer manages end-to-end procurement activities within university policy and budget constraints, from identifying needs and sourcing suppliers to negotiating contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Identify needs, source suppliers, request and evaluate quotations, and negotiate contracts within policy and budget limits.
• Place and track purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records.
• Monitor supplier performance and ensure timely delivery of goods and services to various departments.
• Collaborate with academic and administrative units so that purchasing decisions match operational needs and support cost optimization.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and internal procedures, and help improve procurement processes and build long-term supplier relationships.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, economics, finance or a related field; relevant professional certifications are an asset.
• Experience in an academic or research setting is an advantage.
• Knowledge of procurement regulations and good practices in public or institutional purchasing.
• Fluency in English or French; additional languages are beneficial.
• Ability to work in a structured, detail-oriented, deadline-driven environment.

Required skills

• Purchasing and procurement: supplier sourcing, quotation analysis, contract negotiation.
• Inventory management, order tracking and procurement documentation.
• Office and ERP or procurement software, including spreadsheets, databases and digital communication tools.
• Data analysis, bid comparison, budget management and evidence-based purchasing decisions.
• Strong communication and collaboration with suppliers, internal stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
