Communications Officer

About the role

The Communications Officer will design and implement strategic communication plans that support project and programme objectives. This role involves analysing communication contexts, managing editorial calendars, and producing a variety of high‑quality content for internal and external audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Support the creation and execution of approved communication strategies and plans.
• Provide data‑driven insights to shape communication approaches.
• Ensure timely, high‑quality delivery of communications aligned with project goals.
• Track implementation and ensure compliance with UNOPS regulations.
• Analyse local audiences and channels to optimise outreach.
• Develop editorial content such as talking points, FAQs, press releases, social‑media posts, website updates, videos and fact sheets.
• Manage editorial calendars and coordinate content production across channels.
• Collaborate with technical experts to produce reports and features.
• Maintain effective communication with donors, partners and other stakeholders.
• Support the organisation of external events and ensure UNOPS representation standards.
• Facilitate training sessions on communications topics and contribute to knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Professional certificate in communications, journalism or digital/social media communications is desirable.
• Experience in communications, public relations, media or journalism.
• Experience using collaboration and productivity tools and web‑based management systems.
• Experience working in multicultural environments or UN system organisations is a plus.
