Finance Assistant – Yaoundé

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Finance Assistant to support its Cameroon Country Office and sub‑offices in Yaoundé. Working under the Resource Management Officer and Finance Officer, you will help ensure accurate financial management and compliance with internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with day‑to‑day finance activities, including treasury monitoring and cash position reviews.
• Enter payments, receipts and non‑cash vouchers in the Wave accounting system, ensuring all supporting documentation and signatures are obtained.
• Maintain the mission’s petty cash account and support internal controls to safeguard assets.
• Act as primary liaison with local banks on operational matters, including exchange‑rate negotiations.
• Prepare monthly accounting returns for headquarters and regional offices.
• Collate and process Request for Payment (RFP) documents from sub‑offices, verify invoices and expense claims, and ensure proper filing of approved vouchers.
• Assist in the preparation of funding requests and ensure sufficient local funds are available.
• Recommend improvements to internal controls and operational efficiencies.

Required profile

• Degree or certificate in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with financial data.
• Good organizational skills for maintaining filing systems and documentation.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple units and sub‑offices.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Wave accounting system.
