Head of Sub-Office, Douala

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Sub‑Office in Douala, Cameroon. Reporting directly to the Chief of Mission, the Head of Sub‑Office will oversee operational, administrative and programme activities that support the EU‑IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the Sub‑Office, ensuring compliance with IOM policies and UN standards.
• Coordinate programme implementation, including protection assistance, voluntary return, community‑based reintegration and health assessments.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team, providing guidance, performance management and capacity‑building.
• Maintain relationships with government authorities, local partners, civil society and international donors.
• Oversee budgeting, financial reporting and resource mobilisation for the Sub‑Office.
• Collect and analyse migration data to inform strategic decisions.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in migration studies, international relations, public administration or a related field.
• Significant experience (minimum 8 years) in managing complex migration programmes, preferably in West, Central or North Africa.
• Demonstrated leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams in an international or UN context.
• Strong understanding of migration governance, protection standards and reintegration processes.

Required skills

• Fluency in English (mandatory) and French (highly desirable).
• Proficiency in project management tools and reporting systems.
• Ability to analyse quantitative migration data.
