Payroll & Benefits Specialist – Shared Services

About the role

Scotia Investments Limited is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join its Shared Services team in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Lead, you will manage payroll and benefits for multiple companies across several provinces, ensuring accuracy, compliance and excellent service.

Key responsibilities

• Process accurate and compliant payroll across the Scotia Investments Family of Companies, adhering to legislation and data‑protection requirements.
• Administer employee programs—including enrolments, changes and terminations—across payroll, pension and benefits platforms.
• Respond to payroll, pension and benefits inquiries and support team leaders in the effective use of systems and processes.
• Complete reconciliations, remittances, billings and conduct audits to ensure compliance across payroll and benefits programs.
• Collaborate with external vendors to support smooth program and plan administration.
• Partner with the People & Culture team on disability case management and attendance programs.
• Support People & Culture reporting and analytics, including metrics and funding program submissions.

Required profile

• PCP designation (required).
• Diploma or degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, human resources or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• CPHR or CEBS designation (asset).
• Experience with multi‑company, multi‑province payroll environments.
• Familiarity with collective agreements.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Payworks or a similar payroll/HRIS platform.
• Microsoft Excel.
• Microsoft Office Suite.
