Project Assistant – Assisted Returns

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Project Assistant to support assisted voluntary returns in Cameroon. The role involves providing airport assistance, coordinating reception and reintegration activities, and ensuring compliance with program objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑departure family tracing, assessment and remote counselling to inform migrants of return feasibility and available assistance.
• Coordinate with sending missions, IOM units and partners to organise reception, post‑arrival assistance and individual or group counselling for returnees.
• Perform vulnerability screening, verify eligibility for assistance, and validate reintegration plans and payments.
• Develop integrated reintegration plans based on economic, social and psychosocial needs, and refer migrants to specialised protection services.
• Maintain up‑to‑date case information in IOM’s Migrant Management Operational System (MiMOSA) and liaise with government and non‑government partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, International Studies, Law, Political or Social Sciences, Development Studies, Education or related field (or high school with four years relevant experience).
• Minimum two years of experience in social work, case management, protection work or assistance to vulnerable populations.
• Fluency in both French and English (oral and written) is mandatory.
• Experience with international humanitarian organisations and understanding of migration and migrants’ rights is an advantage.
