Protection Assistant – Bamenda

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Protection Assistant to support gender‑based violence (GBV) case‑management activities in Bamenda, Cameroon. The role focuses on providing safe‑space services and mobile response for internally displaced persons affected by the crisis in the North‑West and South‑West regions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage GBV cases referred to safe spaces, ensuring timely documentation and follow‑up.
• Coordinate with IRC staff, partner organisations and community actors to facilitate case referrals.
• Provide direct assistance to survivors, including psychosocial support and linkage to medical, legal and protection services.
• Maintain accurate records in the case‑management system and produce regular reports.
• Participate in outreach activities and mobile response teams to reach vulnerable populations.
• Support cash‑transfer and livelihood programmes that enhance the safety and well‑being of affected families.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian protection, GBV, or related fields.
• Knowledge of local context and cultural sensitivities in Cameroon’s North‑West and South‑West regions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to IRC’s values of dignity, respect and human rights.
