Wash and Shelter Specialist - Cameroon

About the role

NRC Cameroon is looking for a WASH and Shelter Specialist based in Yaounde. The post provides technical oversight and strategic direction to Country and Area offices to develop the WASH and Shelter Core Competency, strengthens the technical quality of the Shelter and WASH programme, and supports project implementation at field level. It involves country-wide travel for quality assurance, capacity building of staff and development of a donor strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Support colleagues and partners on WASH and Shelter, develop relevant training and coach staff and partners to meet NRC standards, and help inducting new staff
• Develop inclusive WASH and Shelter strategies, technical guidance and macro logframes aligned with regional and global priorities
• Contribute to fundraising by developing and revising funding proposals, budgets and donor reports
• Follow up on contractual commitments, ensure high technical quality and synergy in project implementation, and support the implementation team
• Extract key learnings from the Core Competency and feed them into staff development
• Represent NRC in clusters and forums, including with national authorities and donors

Required profile

• At least 3 years of technical experience in a humanitarian or recovery context, including at least 2 years in WASH and/or Shelter (Specialist/PDM or Project Manager)
• Master's degree or similar in a relevant field
• Experience in complex and volatile contexts, documented results, and self-knowledge of leadership skills
• Fluency in French and English, written and spoken
• 60% travel to field offices; the position is open to female candidates

• SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards (required); NEAT+ and cash-and-market approaches (assets)
• House, land and property rights in shelter and WASH responses
• Behaviour change and community engagement processes, with gender and diversity integration
• Partnership-based programming, donor management and team capacity building
