Security Intern – Support Risk Management & Compliance

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Cameroon is looking for a Security Intern to support its Security Management System. The intern will assist the Security Unit in strengthening risk assessments, compliance monitoring and staff preparedness across the mission’s offices, particularly in regions with heightened security challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, analyse and consolidate security information from field offices.
• Assist in updating Security Risk Management measures, Mission Security Plans and area‑specific advisories.
• Participate in field risk assessments under supervision and support follow‑up visits.
• Help complete security compliance checklists covering physical security, access control, fire safety and staff equipment.
• Monitor implementation of UNSMS standards and track corrective actions.
• Compile and analyse security and safety incident data for weekly and monthly reports.
• Support the organisation of security briefings, fire drills, emergency exercises and the preparation of awareness materials.
• Contribute to learning materials on travel, residential and fire safety.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in a university programme related to security, international relations, public administration or a similar field.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• Good written and oral communication skills in English.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Yaounde and travel to field locations as needed.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of security risk management concepts.
• Familiarity with compliance monitoring and incident reporting processes.
