Deputy Project Director

About the role

The Deputy Project Director will support the Project Director in leading Jhpiego’s country office in Cameroon, providing strategic and technical guidance for global health programmes. Working closely with senior leadership, the role ensures that project plans, budgets and activities align with the priorities of the United States government, the Cameroonian Ministry of Public Health and Jhpiego’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Project Director in developing and overseeing inclusive, budgeted operational plans and technical assistance strategies for the Ministry of Public Health.
• Interpret qualitative and quantitative data to produce internal and external reports, and communicate project achievements to headquarters, donors and stakeholders.
• Supervise project staff, monitor implementation, and ensure resources are applied appropriately.
• Represent Jhpiego in high‑level meetings with government officials, UN agencies and Jhpiego headquarters.
• Step in as acting Project Director when required, with full authority to guide strategic planning and deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with USG global health foreign assistance policies and Cameroonian health sector regulations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in managing complex health projects in low‑resource settings.
• Strong knowledge of US government global health assistance policies and Cameroonian Ministry of Public Health strategies.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and engage senior government and donor officials.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and communication skills.
