Country Director – Cameroon

About the role

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a senior leader to head its operations in Cameroon. The Country Director will oversee a team of more than 75 staff, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality humanitarian programmes across emergency response, education, legal assistance, shelter and WASH.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the evolving humanitarian context in Cameroon, the Lake Chad Basin and CAR and adapt NRC programmes accordingly.
• Lead programme design, implementation and monitoring to meet the needs of over 2.9 million people requiring assistance.
• Motivate, coach and manage staff, fostering an efficient Country Management Group and high‑performing teams.
• Ensure compliance with humanitarian principles, safeguarding policies and organisational ethics.
• Drive resource mobilisation, advocacy and representation in inter‑agency coordination forums.
• Develop and enforce diversity and inclusion policies across all staff levels.
• Collaborate with regional offices and neighbouring country programmes (Nigeria, Chad, CAR) to ensure coherent advocacy and programming.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development programmes, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Proven track record of managing large, multidisciplinary teams and complex budgets.
• Strong expertise in strategic planning, programme adaptation and results‑based management.
• Demonstrated ability to mobilise resources, engage donors and influence policy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills, with fluency in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
