Engineer – Core Network Operations

About the role

The Engineer – Core Network Operations is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, optimisation and continuous improvement of MTN Cameroon’s core network systems. The role supports service delivery, network resilience, security compliance and contributes to the company’s business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement processes for integrating new nodes, links and services into the core network.
• Implement changes across all core systems, conduct tests and review performance before and after each change.
• Monitor daily statistical performance of core systems and produce relevant reports.
• Support local teams with troubleshooting of general and specific network faults.
• Manage third‑party vendors delivering GTP, SS7 and SMS firewall services, ensuring SLA compliance.
• Coordinate communication between IN, Billing, Planning and IS departments.
• Lead UAT/PAT activities, resolve issues and document outcomes.
• Address vulnerabilities affecting core systems and ensure timely remediation.
• Schedule and document Disaster Recovery Plan activities in line with the Business Continuity Plan.
• Audit core system configurations for consistency and promote intelligent analytics tools.
• Participate in circuit‑switched and packet‑switched network troubleshooting, remote/on‑site support and emergency recovery.
• Provide technical guidance to planning and project teams for core network solutions.
• Ensure backups of core systems are up‑to‑date and support audit engagements.
• Perform laboratory testing of new products and maintain PS, CS and IMS network elements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in core network operations within a telecom environment.
• Ability to work with cross‑functional teams and coordinate third‑party vendors.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail for performance monitoring and vulnerability management.
