Protection Associate – G5 (Douala)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Protection Associate to join its Douala office. The role supports the mission’s protection portfolio, focusing on assistance, voluntary return, and durable solutions for vulnerable migrants in Cameroon.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with migrants in irregular administrative situations and assess protection needs.
• Identify and implement assistance options, including voluntary return and reintegration pathways.
• Manage complex cases such as unaccompanied children and trafficked individuals, ensuring durable solutions.
• Apply and monitor case‑management standard operating procedures across the team.
• Coordinate referrals to state and civil‑society partners for food, medical, and housing support.
• Organise departure logistics for voluntary returns, including documentation and transport.
• Enter and validate migrant data in IOM databases, ensuring data quality.
• Provide guidance and training to case managers and new protection assistants.
• Contribute to the development and updating of protection SOPs and training tools.

Required profile

• Experience in protection, case management, or humanitarian assistance for migrants.
• Knowledge of IOM or similar protection standards and procedures.
• Ability to conduct interviews and assess complex protection cases.
• Strong coordination and referral skills with government and NGOs.
• Excellent communication in English; French is an asset.
