Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer

About the role

The Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer will provide technical support for the STRIDES Activity in Cameroon, working closely with the Ministry of Public Health at national and sub‑national levels. The role contributes to planning and implementing activities that improve the quality and performance of epidemiology and surveillance interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of event‑based, indicator‑based, and community‑based surveillance for priority pathogens and antimicrobial resistance.
• Develop and deliver training materials, SOPs, and job aids to strengthen field disease surveillance personnel.
• Collaborate with national counterparts to align surveillance strategies, policies, and plans with international standards.
• Prepare technical briefs, reports, and other documentation to capture best practices and research findings.
• Assist in the preparation of work plans, presentations, and donor reports, and participate in technical meetings with stakeholders.

Required profile

• Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.
• Excellent oral and written communication, organizational and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to analyze and interpret data.
• Sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of political and ethical issues in the field.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office Suite (including Office 365).
• Data analysis and epidemiologic data interpretation.
• Development of surveillance tools, SOPs, and training materials.
• Use of personal computer/laptop for data management and reporting.
