Laboratory Technologist – Migration Health Assessments

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a Laboratory Technologist to provide technical support for Migration Health Assessments and related programmes in Yaounde (and Douala), Cameroon. Working under the Senior Laboratory Technologist and the Chief of Mission, you will ensure high‑quality laboratory services for migrant health screening.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑examination, examination, and post‑examination laboratory procedures using standard equipment.
• Support implementation of laboratory quality management systems and act as focal point for designated Quality System Essentials.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and biosafety measures to guarantee safety and result accuracy.
• Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities, documenting outcomes as required.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure proper stock levels, and report operational issues.
• Manage record‑keeping, data collection, analysis, and reporting for monitoring and research.
• Develop or update SOPs in coordination with the laboratory supervisor.
• Provide courteous service respecting patient dignity and IOM policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology or related field.
• Valid license to practice where applicable.
• Three years of experience for degree holders or five years for diploma holders in a busy clinical laboratory.
• Familiarity with national regulations and laboratory best practices.
