Senior Animal Health Officer

About the role

The Senior Animal Health Officer will provide technical leadership for the STRIDES project in Cameroon, focusing on strengthening animal health and zoonotic disease surveillance through a One Health approach. The role involves close collaboration with national ministries, government institutions, and partners to improve surveillance systems and support the implementation of Objective 2 of STRIDES.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support the implementation of animal health and zoonotic disease surveillance activities under the STRIDES framework.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, and the National Program for the Prevention and Control of Emerging and Re‑emerging Zoonoses.
• Monitor and evaluate surveillance system performance, data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure alignment with international quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance to sub‑national teams and partners on epidemiological surveillance and One Health integration.
• Represent STRIDES in stakeholder meetings, workshops, and reporting mechanisms.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in veterinary medicine, animal health, public health, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in animal health, zoonotic disease surveillance, and One Health initiatives.
• Proven ability to work with government ministries and multi‑sectoral partners.
• Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
